Perceptions Of Life

I listen to people declaring that life is tough, that it’s hard to survive in this contemporary world. I sometimes myself fall in the depths of depression, and I have this feeling that there is so much pressure making it hard to live, as if all joy has faded from my life. This is something which happens with us all and posting Instagram stories about this will not help.

This is a world where we say that everyone has a lot of stress, people are tired, well we have transformed into a robot who is being run by the brain, to be honest most of us don’t even know who we truly are and hence depression and stress have become common terminologies of the modern world.

I find it funny when someone tells me that life is tough (at times that someone is me myself). There are literally people who faced death in its face and came back stronger, stories about refugees who lost their entire family, their own heritage, but yet they have the will to live their rest of lives with peace and dignity.

Viktor Frankl

There was this story of a Jew man named Viktor Franklin. He was a survivor from the Nazi Holocaust. The man saw his entire family killed before his own eyes and later was asked to dispose of the bodies of his own loved ones. That man later wrote “The last of human freedoms- the ability to choose one’s attitude in a given set of circumstances”. There is a lot of pain out there, when we compare ourselves to the lives of the many Syrian refugees or with the Jews while the Nazi Germany or with millions of people who lost everything because of wars then we understand that what we have is a gem, that’s why Anand Bakshi sir wrote the song “Duniya me Kitna gam hai, mera gam kitna kam hai” (there is so much pain in the world, comparatively my pain is so less).

We need to stop pretending that life is hard, life is simply life, it’s our choice to see it as a boon or a curse! Overthinking, using illogical logics, victimisation, lack of acceptance, these are some of the many things which we are doing to ourselves which are making it hard for us to live and enjoy life.

The next time you feel life is hard, go on to the internet and search about the lives of the million refuges who gave there all just in a hope that their lives would become better some day! Someone else’s pain might reduce yours.

I do not say that there is no pain in our lives but we tend to exaggerate it, what I mean to show you is that there is pain everywhere, you aren’t the only one alone and there’s nothing wrong with it. When we pile up this pain, we conclude that life is hard. Bring a little acceptance in life and see things as they are, even if they do not look pretty! Believe me, the second you change your viewpoint, this world would seem to be a much better place, and your dull life would turn into something more purposeful!
