You Only Need Your Approval, Everyone Else is Just Supplementary!

A few days ago one of my friends suddenly quit Instagram. We didn’t talk for three weeks straight. One fine day I see he has reactivated his account. I asked him about the reason why he left social media, he told me that he was quite depressed because no one used to like his posts on Instagram. You might feel that it was an absurd reason, but it is very common now a days!

It has become a common tendency of people to identify themselves with the number of likes or comments they receive on their social media posts. If not many people like your photos you become depressed because unconsciously you have made a bar that has to be met, otherwise you feel anxious and miserable! This is one of the many bars we have created in our lives which stop us from growing!

At times when we teenagers see the popular kids in our schools, we have an urge to become like them, to be popular, to be admired, but what we don’t understand is, popularity doesn’t necessarily bring happiness. Happiness comes from inside and if you depend upon others to provide you happiness in the form of likes or compliments than boy you are paving your path towards depression. “He who seeks only for applause from without has all his happiness in another’s keeping. wrote Oliver Goldsmith in his play, ‘The Good-Natured Man’

Stop defining your worth from the number of likes you get, or from any other aspect, know that you are valuable and if you won’t believe that, no one will. Happiness isn’t directly proportional to these irrational factors, so stay happy.

If you post anything on any of your social media handles, do it because you want to, not for popularity, not for likes. It is a common inclination that we depend upon people’s approval; this habit poses many different challenges for us. “Approval is a lover who will always break your heart.” says Sammy Rhodes in his book, ‘This Is Awkward’. This habit indicates a lack of self-love.Don’t look for people’s approval, you are an individual and you are more than enough to take your decisions! Love yourself, approve your originality, be you, be confident and this world will not have any authority over you, you will conquer this world and you will achieve success!

Another thing which I observed was that there was no data related to how many people leave social media due to these factors. It is a major psychological issue which should be talked about but there is no mention of this whatsoever. This is why we have taken the initiative, to contribute to this good work, please fill in the survey down below.
