Money isn’t everything, but Happiness is!

“Dukh ka Adhikaar” (The right to mourn) was the name of the Hindi chapter I had when I was studying in class 9. The excerpt of the whole chapter was to showcase the inequality that exists based on economic conditions. Another lesson that we learned subconsciously was that in this grim world you need money and resources to even mourn peacefully!

After a few years, when I was in class 12, I observed this ad on television about an app which assured that it could teach your toddler coding, not only that, they portrayed the app as a key to earn money, they acclaimed that in just a few years there would be hundreds of investors fighting outside your house to buy your child’s app. First of all, toddlers belonging to the age group 6-8 have a whole lifetime to achieve success and earn money and there is no need to steal their childhood because of a voodoo app that doesn’t guarantee success but shows only and only fake dreams.

The fact that struck me the most was how the advertisers had shown that you should learn coding to earn money, but not for the sake of learning something new!

Incidents like these create a delusion in our mind, we start to feel as if money is the most mattering thing in this world. Since a very tender age, we have been fed the idea that money is the purpose of our survival, study, get a good job, earn a lot and die.

We create a counter-productive temperament towards money that influences every decision we make throughout our life! People generally enter into the fields of engineering and medical because they believe that they would be equipped to attain high paid jobs in these sectors. Our careers something so prominent in our life gets decided based on the average income a certain field promises you!

This negative temperament towards money is very harmful. People who get blinded by their wealth end up doing anything to make money. It’s needed to be understood, that money is just money, it’s a very important part of life but isn’t the only part of our life. Let’s not exaggerate its importance in our life. Stay happy, expect more, and at the same time accept what we are today. We need to realize that our happiness is our biggest treasure!
