We often use this word “addiction” in our day to day life, “I’m addicted to this song” or maybe “I’m addicted to this game”. We use this word as if it is a simple thing and it’s natural to happen, but is it? We read everyday about children being addicted to games like PUBG or some people addicted to drugs, addiction is something which happens very easily but once you get addicted, it’s hard to get over it.

We all know that we were originally apes and through this wondrous process called evolution we became what we are today-“humans”! The major difference between our present state and what we earlier were is that, now we control our brain, earlier our brain used to control us on every level, and the brain is programmed for one and only one thing “survival”.

Having control of your own brain is the most basic part of being a human; if you lose this control it leads you towards animalistic behavior. Even after so many years even after we became the most intelligent species of this planet there are still some parts of us which we let our brain control. We get addicted only because we are unable to gain control over our brain, the more you go down in this mud of addiction the more control you lose.

It is always seen in cases of people who are addicted, that they live in denial; they never accept that they are addicted; they rather present you with illogical logics and excuses! Acceptance is the first step of fighting addiction, you cannot work upon any of your problems until and unless you accept that they really exist, acceptance is the most difficult part in the process of coming out of any sort of addiction! Once you accept the true facts, then you can fight your addiction quite easily, if it’s something serious you can take help of professionals, if it’s something small you yourself can make goals and plans to help you come out of your addiction.

Addiction of any sorts isn’t good, not even the addiction of our productive activities like studying or playing. It shows that you are letting your mind control you, which is a very dangerous thing, don’t let your mind control you, remember that you are more than your mind, accept what you are, accept all the challenges you face and deal with them accordingly!

I myself have been addicted to social media, and to come out of this, I do this activity called “social distancing”; I uninstall all my social media apps for a week or so. I do this regularly just to remind myself that I’m the monarch of my own self not my brain!
