In This World of Seconds, Be The First You!

As a teenager, you will find that originality is vanishing from our age. We as teenagers try to copy others, we buy our clothes from the biggest brands, just so we can impress those who live around us. Show off is a virus that has infested itself in us. We want people to like us so badly that at times we start neglecting who we are, what we believe, we start becoming carbon copies of those who we adore. It is a common predisposition of today’s world that if you want to look cool, if you want to be the popular kid in the school you cannot be original, you have to wear a mask of utter fakeness and present before the world a lie because the truth is to be ashamed of. I feel originality is cool and you don’t have to be artificial!

My friend went to a school couple of years ago, but she changed her school the very next year. She told that the whole school was divided into mainly two groups, the very basis of this differentiation was your mobile phones. If you had an iPhone you got to hang out with the popular kids, but if you had an android phone, you weren’t even allowed to sit with the so-called popular kids. It is so startling and hilarious at the same time. I did not know that after the caste system of India now we have started to have a brand new Mobile system! “You have an Android phone, sorry you are inferior”, ” You have an iPhone you are superior”. Funny isn’t it?

These small incidents make us understand how the present generation feels and lives. Money, brands, glamour has blinded and corrupted us! It has made us stereotyped, we have started to define people, not on the basis of their characters, but from their overall appearance. It is good if you have an iPhone but it doesn’t make a person with an android phone or a person without a phone any less human then you are!

To be true, even I got stuck in this web of fakeness, I started buying expensive clothes, everything branded, started saying what everyone wanted to hear. But then I understood that I was more confident before, that now, even my confidence is fake because all it depends upon is this money, these brands, but what if someday I lose all this? Would I still be this same person with this same confidence? Probably no, I realized that if I want to do something, it should be because I choose to do it, not because I want to impress someone!

Today’s world loves fakeness, it doesn’t care about the reality, it doesn’t care about your originality, it sees you with this fixed frame, and all it wants is that you appease them. Inequality persisted before and still exists, but now it has taken different shapes. Older times were better when you didn’t have to give a damn about what you do, what you wear, now we have to be so self-conscious about everything that originality has died, we present ourselves in the way people want to see us, not in the manner we want to live.

We do what others are doing, we have become copy ‘humans’, and the worst of all we are proud of it! We follow all the trends, as it shows that you are knowledgeable, it helps you uplift your social image, that’s why you get views when you write about Black lives matter, but no one reads when you talk about the migrant workers dying every day, do all lives matter? Or is it that the society chooses which lives matter and which do not? You have got just one life, live it on your own terms, live it in a way you want to. In this world of seconds, become the first you! Because as Ayrton Senna said-“Being second is to be the first of the ones who lose!”
